If you found this address in your server logs: here is what visited, why, and how to stop it.
What it is
BorderlessSiteScan is Borderless Designs's website checker. It looks at a small business website — usually because the owner, or we, asked how it is doing — and reports things like whether it works on phones, whether it is served securely and how many pages it has. It identifies itself on every request as:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BorderlessSiteScan/0.2.0; +https://borderlessdesigns.com/scanner)
How it behaves
- It reads your robots.txt first and obeys it, including Crawl-delay. If robots.txt answers with a server error, it reads nothing.
- One request at a time, with a pause between them, and at most 50 pages (20 for a scan started from our public page).
- It never submits a form, never tries a login or admin page, never runs your JavaScript and never follows links to other sites.
- It keeps facts, not your writing: page counts, the software in use, your business name and phone number as published.
How to block it
Add this to the robots.txt at the root of your site:
User-agent: BorderlessSiteScan Disallow: /
It checks robots.txt before every scan, so the change takes effect at once. To have anything we stored about your site deleted, email hello@borderlessdesigns.com with the domain.
